Welcome to my first blog of 2018. It’s headed “Silicon Valley” for no other reason other than one of clients was telling me recently that he sent out a message about his new app and mentioned Silicon Valley. He received over three thousand hits, so here’s hoping this month’s blog gets similar interest.

Chris Mitchell joined the LCL team at the beginning of January to head up our contentious work. Chris has taken a role as senior associate in the team and has hit the ground running picking up a number of new instructions for clients.

I spent some time over the festive period thinking about the business development activity we had undertaken with some of the representatives of other parts of the Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group. Above is a picture of Les Gordon, director with Reach Commercial Finance.

We took a party of guests for a walk in the Lake District. Les assured me that it would be a mere stroll in the park. And hour and half later we got to the top of the blinking hill!

However, it was a great couple of days and looking back on the year gave me the opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved in the past two years. It started with me working from my home in January 2016. We gained our ABS authorisation in September 2016 and we began to develop a whole new law firm and a new way of doing business. We have grown very quickly.

We are now a team of 7 including our consultant, Paula Smith and are actively recruiting at the moment for a PA, and two solicitors one to support our corporate and banking team, headed by senior associate, Jen Moore and one to support our contentious team headed by Chris Mitchell. We are also in talks at the moment to take on two more consultants, to support private client work and property services.

This month marks two years with LCBSG. As well as reflecting on what we have achieved to date, I have been giving some thought to what we wish to achieve in the next two years. Continued recruitment of high quality lawyers with great commercial sense is a top priority. In addition, we wish to extend our national reach, developing further the relationships we have with our clients and contacts beyond the North West and recruitment planned to support this.

We are already receiving fantastic support from our colleagues across the group. The support includes introductions to locally based firms of accountants, financiers and other firms of solicitors. We are growing a truly national practice but with a difference.

Finally, if you have had a dry January. Well done you are nearly there. See below!

Have a great year and see you in February.

Andrew
